ICT is now an important subject in our school curricula which was not accepted by many at the beginning. They said there is no electricity in the country, what is the future of studying information technology? But now we are moving towards exporting software worth billion dollars. It would not have been possible if we listened to them.
Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel made the remarks at an online discussion titled ‘Need for new policies for education during disaster periods’ at the Sarabangla Focus event on Monday (April 26th).
Regarding digital education activities during the pandemic, he said, “No country in the world has achieved digital equality in that sense. Inequality is not uncommon. It is also technical and technological issues as well. For example, the speed of the internet in Chittagong is not as speedy as in Dhaka. It’s not an economic factor rather a technological reality.”
“We have been able to reach our people,” he added. Even schools that are in a very convenient position are not capable to ensure 100% schooling online. Even then we are trying to reach as many students as possible. Assignment, TV classrooms, radio, YouTube class activities are being conducted everywhere.
Gautam Roy, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education and Research, Rajshahi University and Shirin Akhter, Development Worker were also present in the program.
