The video game industry is now a worth160 billion-dollar market. 51 percent of it came from mobile games. As a global population, the market of Bangladesh is supposed to be 6 billion dollars, but now this market has turned into an industry of 50-60 million dollars. And the ICT department has taken initiative to take advantage of this opportunity.
In this case, the ‘National Gaming Policy’ is being formulated to develop world-class mobile games through domestic initiatives to present the culture, heritage and history of the liberation war of Bangladesh to the young generation.
Through this policy, the Department of Information and Communication Technology is going to take initiative for more foreign investment in the country, and how the government can get its fair VAT and tax from the sale of popular games in Bangladesh. The ICT Department is also going to initiate specialized training on games or animation in this connection.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has already met Jamilur Rashid, CEO of Ulka Games Limited, to discuss the promising future of Bangladesh’s game industry.
During the meeting, he promised training and policy support to those who are interested in creating FTP games, real money games, fantasy sports, gambling apps, 3D art, game development and animation.
“It is safe to say that if we can improve, it will be possible to create a multi-billion dollar market in the next 4-5 years, as well as create jobs for thousands of young people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sweden-based top company ‘Steelfront’ has recently acquired India’s Moon-frog Lab and Bangladesh’s Ulka Games for around Tk 775 crore. Steelfront Group is one of the top 20 game studios in the world. Steelfront Group is listed in the specialized segment of First North Premier of the famous stock market Nasdaq.
