Apple is reportedly planning to introduce the iPhone 17 Air (or iPhone 17 Slim) in 2025, replacing the underperforming iPhone 16 Plus model. According to GSM Arena, this move is driven by disappointing sales of the iPhone 16 Plus.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be remarkably thin, with a thickness ranging between 5mm and 6mm, making it one of the slimmest smartphones to date. For comparison, the current iPhone 16 is 7.8mm thick, and even the 6.1mm iPad Air pales in comparison to the anticipated design.
To achieve this ultra-thin profile, Apple has reportedly made some compromises. The iPhone 17 Air will not support physical SIM cards, include only one speaker doubling as an earpiece, and feature a smaller battery compared to the iPhone 16’s 3,561mAh capacity. Additionally, Apple’s custom-designed modem will replace Qualcomm chips, sacrificing mmWave support and offering slower data speeds.
The device is expected to sport a 6.6-inch display, aluminum frame, A19 chip, Face ID, and Dynamic Island functionality. It will likely include a 48MP single rear camera, a 24MP front camera, and 8GB of RAM.
Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 17 Air alongside other iPhone 17 models in September 2025. Its groundbreaking slim design and features could redefine smartphone innovation.
