Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has jointly earned the distinction of being the best university in Bangladesh, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2025, published on Wednesday. JUST is recognized as the top university in the country, sharing the honor with four other institutions.
The rankings place five universities from Bangladesh in the 801-1000 range globally. The top universities in the country include Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Daffodil International University, Jahangirnagar University, Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), and North South University. JUST performed exceptionally well in the area of qualitative research.
In response to the achievement, the Vice Chancellor of JUST, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, held a meeting with university officials on Wednesday afternoon in the university’s administrative building. He expressed his gratitude to all involved and said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all faculty, researchers, students, officers, and staff of JUST for securing this prestigious position in the Times Higher Education rankings. I hope that we will maintain this distinguished status in the future. Our next goal is to secure a place in the global rankings, and to achieve that, we must work together.”
Among private universities, Daffodil International University secured the top position in Bangladesh, excelling in research citation impact with a score of 96. The university attributes this accomplishment to the relentless efforts of its faculty, students, and staff, as well as its forward-thinking approach to education and research.
Additionally, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) ranked 6th among Bangladeshi universities. The Director of CUET’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, remarked, “IQAC has been implementing various initiatives throughout the year to improve the quality of education and research. This ranking reflects our progress, and we are determined to continue moving forward.”
The Times Higher Education World University Ranking evaluates universities based on several performance indicators, including teaching quality, research environment, qualitative research, industry engagement, and international outlook. The 2025 edition ranked over 2,000 universities from 115 countries and regions globally.
