Major General (retd.) Md. Emdadul Bari has been appointed as the new chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Agency (BTRC). Before retiring from the army, he was the Director General of Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies.
Earlier, Emdad Ul Bari was the Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2018. Before that in 2017, he served as Director General of Systems and Services Department of BTRC. Even earlier, she served as Chairperson of Dhaka Cantonment Girls’ Public School and College in 2013.
He served as an observer in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was then Colonel Commandant of the Signal Corps of the Bangladesh Army.
On Tuesday, the contract and foreign recruitment wing of the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification regarding the appointment of a retired Major General as the chairman of BTRC.
It is said in the notification, according to section 7(1) and 9(2) of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act, 2001, Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari was appointed as Commissioner of BTRC under the management and administration category and appointed as Chairman on the condition of severing working relationship with other institutions and organizations.
Emdad ul Bari has been appointed by the government for the next 3 years from the date of his joining. Other conditions of this appointment will be determined through the approved contract.
Major General (retd.) Emdad Ul Bari is a Post Graduate in Defense Studies. He also holds Bachelor of Engineering (Telecom) and Bachelor of Science degrees. He has done MBA from IBA, Dhaka University. Completed various military courses in China, Pakistan and UK.
Earlier, on August 14, Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed resigned from the post of chairman of BTRC. He had been serving in this position since December 14 last year. Before this, he served as the Vice Chairman of the organization. Now, Emdad Ul Bari has been appointed as the Chairman of BTRC
