The discussed NTTN company Fiber@Home Limited was punished for the crime of providing Internet services at the marginal level violating the license policy. The regulator BTRC has written to the company on Thursday to pay the fine within ten working days.
In the penalty letter signed by the Deputy Director of Enforcement and Inspection Department of the organization SM Golam Sarwar, it has been informed that this penalty has been imposed for providing internet services through illegal Cyclone Project by using license, equipment, NOC, manpower and various servers of other ISP organizations in violation of NTTN license policy.
In addition to the two addresses of the Managing Director of Fiber@Home Limited, copies of the letter have been given to the private secretary of the Chairman, the Director General and the Directors.
Earlier, on 17th of last month, BTRC had given seven days to seek an explanation from the company in this regard. In that letter, it was said that on August 27, Jashore’s Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park found evidence that Fiber@Home Limited and Fiber at Home Global Limited are providing internet services to Cyclone Project. The investigation revealed that the project is not following the IIG Tariff, NTTN Tariff and infrastructure sharing guidelines set by the Commission. Moreover, various ISPs are doing business in the name of illegal and unlicensed organizations by using different servers like log and billing through license name, NOC and rack space, manpower and active sharing in the name of illegal and unlicensed organizations in violation of Telecommunication Regulation Act 2001.
After that BTRC fined Fiber@Home for not correct statement on the matter. However, the ISPAB businessmen see this fine as a minor punishment for a major sin. According to ISPAB leaders, on August 25, 2019, the court had directed BTRC to levy a fine of Tk. 30 crore from mobile operator Grameenphone for illegal broadband internet business under Go-Broadband package. As such, the company is barely getting by.
