Residents of Baitul Aman Housing, Mansoorabad Housing and Sunibir Housing area of Adabor of Dhaka North City Corporation are in trouble after a local former Jubo League leader of that locality cut off the transmission line to take over the internet business forcefully. Transactions at 4 ATM booths local banks have been closed, disrupting the work of small and cottage e-commerce businesses; and freelancers cannot serve the foreign buyers. The business of 15-20 ISPs serving the area has almost stopped. In such a situation, the local internet users are also worried about watching the New Zealand-Bangladesh World Cup starting from 2:30 pm on Friday.
Also, piles of cut internet cables are lying on Mansoorabad road starting from in front of Chhatra League office on Adabor Road No. 7 under Mohammadpur police station. This increases the risk of road accidents. Aggrieved businessman Masud Rana said that due to local political influencers demonstrating a show-down on the roads, our working hands cannot even go to fix the wires despite increasing pressure of the customers. Moreover, they are now spreading various propaganda against us. On the other hand, the customers face the problem of disconnecting the line after a few days and also hesitate to pay the bill. In such a situation we look to the ISPAB leaders for a solution.
Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan, General Secretary of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) said that this cable has been cut for the fourth time in a year to force viewers to take cable connection instead of watching through Toffee game online on Smart TV.
However, ISPAB has sent the video of cutting the cables of the accused ‘Cable TV businessman Arifur Rahman’ after giving a statement to the media that he did not cut the cables.
