The three-day Regional Climate Summit 2023 started for the first time at Hotel Sheraton in Dhaka with the participation of more than four hundred participants, including members of parliament from South Asian countries. Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury inaugurated the Summit on Friday morning.
While speaking as the chief guest, the Speaker said that there is no alternative to natural solutions to deal with climate risks. Likewise, regional cooperation and knowledge exchange through the development of innovative models of green grids, renewable energy sources, etc. will have to compensate for this loss. At the same time, awareness should be created among the citizens about the risks to life due to climate change.
Environmentalist Kazi Khalikuzzaman Ahmed while speaking as the special guest said that, the climate problems of South Asian countries are almost the same. But South Asian countries are not responsible for climate damages. None of the matters discussed in Cop-29 have been taken into account. Natural disasters are increasing. Global warming is now turning into global boiling. So I want say as Bill Clinton said that the world conferences has turned deaf.
Climate Parliament India Chairman Sanjay Jai Sawal said regional cooperation should be strengthened to deal with climate change impacts.
Member of Parliament Nahim Razzak and Tanveer Shakeel Joy also spoke at the event. The inaugural session was presided over by Saber Hossainnn Chowdhury, Chief Patron of Climate Parliament Bangladesh.
