The official journey of Bangladesh Digital Survey (BDS) program started today across the country with the BDS rollout in Chattogram. Lands Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury inaugurated the program at the Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) Auditorium in the port city of Chattogram on Sunday after completing the pilot project.

The Land Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman presided over the inauguration program while the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md. Tofail Islam, Director General of Land Records and Survey Department Md. Abdul Barik, EDLMS project director of BDS activities Zahurul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Zonal Settlement Officer of Chattogram, Afia Akhtar and other related parties were present.
About 130 years ago, the first scientific survey in Bangladesh started from Chattogram.
The Land Minister said that the main objective of Bangladesh Digital Survey is to complete the cadastral survey and land resource survey in the whole Bangladesh in a short period of time and reduce the need for survey in the field later. Besides, if there is no major land deviation due to natural reasons in an area, there will be no need for revisional survey for the convenience of digital map partition.
At this time Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said, “It will be possible to send the draft Law on Prevention and Remedies of Land Crime to Parliament for the purpose of enacting the law by next September”. Pointing out that the days of illegal land occupation are coming to an end, the minister said that both jail and fine for illegal land occupation are provided for in this law.
Land Secretary Md. Khalilur Rahman said, Mauza map and khatian will be available online at the same time in BDS activities. Within 15 days the khatian will be generated with the design of automatically generated spot correction.
Earlier, on August 03 last year (2022), the Minister of Lands inaugurated the Itbaria Union BDS piloting program of Sadar Upazila of Patuakhali district. Based on the success of the pilot, the Land Minister inaugurated the full-fledged BDS program from Chattogram today.
