Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved 2 more new government technological universities to start academic activities from the academic year 2023-24. As a result, Sunamganj University of Science and Technology and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur will be able to admit a maximum of 40 students in each subject from this academic year.
This decision was taken in the UGC Meeting regarding the proposed faculty, department and manpower appointment which was presided over by a UGC Member Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir. UGC member Prof. Dr. Md. Abu Taher; Sunamganj University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abu Naeem Sheikh; Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur Prof. Dr. Kazi Saifuddin; Director of Public University Management Department of UGC Mohammad Jaminur Rahman; Additional Director Md. Fazlur Rahman along with the concerned officers of UGC and universities were present in that meeting.
Under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Sunamganj University of Science and Technology, required Manpower was allotted for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). For the Departments of Mathematics, Psychology, Statistics and Computer Science and Engineering at Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology, Pirojpur, necessary manpower was sanctioned.
At present, there are 56 public universities in the country. Out of this, 51 universities are conducting academic activities. Out of these 20 were Government Engineering and Technology Universities. This number is incresing to 22 this time.
