The education minister said that ‘smart citizens’ will be at the center of smart Bangladesh, mentioning that the youth are smart. She said, smart economy, smart society and smart government will revolve with this smart citizen. And who is smart – will be efficient, competent, creative, humane, non-communal, tolerant and humane.
On the last day of the first Bangladesh Startup Summit 2023, the Minister of Education Dr. Deepu Moni opined.
Facing a question from Ten Minute School co-founder Mirza Salman Baig in a ‘Fireside Chat’ session, the minister said, “We have a great opportunity till 2030.” In the meantime, we have to build a qualified generation. Education is the main tool for this. Education will be the mega project. Therefore, we need to improve the professional status and financial status of our teachers. We don’t need teachers by chance; we need teachers with heart and soul. Through them, we want to develop skilled, competent and humane people. In this case, they should be well ahead in science and technology as per the need of time.
She also said that the education system before colonial education was very poor. At that time there was a teacher-disciple education. But we were stuck in colonial education for a long time. From there we are now teaching the new and next generation the set of skills for an uncertain unknown future. In addition to soft skills, we bring team work skills, extreme tolerance and thinking power to the solution-oriented education system. We have introduced step by step learning method. Hopefully by 2025, we will be moving to a completely new curriculum. Stating that most of the university students are now free from the curse of unemployment due to the implementation of Digital Bangladesh, the Education Minister said that better results will be obtained if real practitioners are brought to the university as teachers. We need to reskill our soft skills regularly. Small modules should be created. You have to get out of the extremes. Along with the government initiatives, private sector too should come forward to open up the fields of research, innovation, and marketing.
