Bangladesh Coast Guard will use the bandwidth of Bangabandhu Satellite-1. For this purpose, the military establishment signed an agreement with Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) on July 26.
Under the agreement, Bangladesh Coast Guard will establish a modern, secure and advanced telecommunication system using Bangabandhu Satellite-1. By using domestic satellites, Bangladesh Coast Guard took another step forward in achieving self-reliance in telecommunication system. Through the use of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 on Bangladesh Coast Guard patrol ships, telecommunications will continue even within 200 nautical miles of the sea border, which will make Bangladesh’s sea border more secure. It will be possible to continue uninterrupted telecommunication services using this network in case of national emergencies and natural calamities.
The BSCL chairman and chief executive officer Dr. Shah Jahan Mahmud, BSCL Managing Director Md Shafiqul Islam, General Manager (Sales & Marketing) Shah Ahmedul Kabir were present at the signing ceremony.
Deputy Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard, Commodore Md. Moinul Hasan, Director of IT and Communications Directorate Captain Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Deputy Director of IT and Communications Directorate Commander AKM Mizanur Rahman and senior officials of the Directorate of IT and Communications were also present.
It may be noted that, on May 12, 2018, the country’s only satellite, Bangabandhu Satellite-1, went into space bearing the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu.
