The University Grants Commission (UGC) has undertaken the ‘Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HIT)’ and ‘Improving Computer and Software Engineering Tertiary Education (ICSETP)’ projects to develop the ICT sector in Bangladesh and build skilled manpower. The implementation cost of the five-year ICSETP project has been estimated at around Tk. 1300 crore. This project is scheduled to start in the current financial year.
The ICT project will be implemented in Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Jashore University of Science and Technology under the supervision of UGC.
Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Dr. Kazi Shahidullah urged the concerned people to pass the challenge for the smooth implementation of the project.
In the briefing session of the UGC officials regarding the activities of the two projects, he called for proper use of ADB’s first investment in ICT projects in higher education.
In the event, UGC member Prof. Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir, Professor Dr. Biswajit Chanda and Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher, UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman expressed their views.
Director of Planning and Development Department of UGC Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan presented the summary of the two projects in the meeting. Various departmental heads of the commission and related officers participated in the meeting.
