The government has formed two committees for the protection of citizen information. A committee chaired by the Director General of the Digital Security Agency will publish an inquiry report within seven days into the incident of data being exposed from government websites. A standing committee will be constituted for regular monitoring of such incidents.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak announced this decision in a meeting led by him at ICT Tower on Monday (July 10).
The three-hour-long meeting was attended by representatives of the country’s law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies and 29 organizations on the Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) list. Apart from this, officials of Digital Security Agency (DSA) under ICT Division and Bangladesh e-GOV Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) project were present.
In response to the questions of the journalists after the meeting, the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “We have formed a committee headed by the Director General of DSA, where there will be representatives of CIRT and other organizations. They will submit a report on the incident within the next 7 working days. How much information was leaked, how it happened, the risk of it will come up in the report. If the report shows that the person responsible or the organization concerned did not fulfill the minimum code of conduct that should have been met; then we will take action against them. Another committee has been formed which will work regularly to prevent such incidents or to facilitate quick information sharing between various agencies if incidents do occur. There will be representatives from 29 agencies along with law enforcement and intelligence agencies including CIRT and DSA.
Meanwhile, pointing out that three more infrastructures are vulnerable, Palak said, “We have seen that there are weaknesses in three more infrastructures.” They are also being worked on safely now. There are about 52,000 government websites in the country, but these 29 infrastructures are very important.
