The pilot program of ‘Village Digital Booth’ has been started with the aim of easily delivering important services including all financial services required for the rural economic development of the country. Aspire to Innovate-a2i and Zaytun Business Solutions jointly initiated the booth piloting program in Chitrakot village of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj on Thursday. A total of 10 village digital booths have been set up experimentally in five villages of Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district and five villages of Chattogram.
From this village digital booth, all the financial services required by the people of the village, remittances sent by expatriates, e-commerce, online purchase and sale of village products, various banking services, mobile financial institution services, personal and agricultural loans, insurance policies are available from this village digital booth. You can receive other services including application and monthly premium deposit and ticketing.
Project Director (Additional Secretary) of a2i Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir was present as the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Mr. Md. Shariful Alam Tanveer, executive officer of Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj, and Mr. Akbar Hossain, Managing Director of Zaytun Business Solutions were present as special guests. Mr. Tahurul Hasan, Head of Digital Financial Services and Digital Access of a2i presented the context, objectives and future plans of Village Digital Booth while Mr. Md. Arfan Ali, Chairman of Zaytun Business Solutions presided over the ceremony.
While speaking as the chief guest, the project director of a2i (Additional Secretary) Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir said, ‘According to the kind instructions of the Honorable Prime Minister, the pilot program of the Village Digital Booth has been started as part of the extension of the Digital Center to the village level with the aim of delivering all kinds of services to the hands of the people in the continuation of accelerating the journey of Smart Bangladesh. In the light of the piloting experience, we hope that by 2031, it will be possible to establish one village digital booth in every village on the basis of public-private partnership.
It may be noted that, the ‘a2i’ payment aggregator platform ‘Ekpay’ is being implemented under the Cabinet Division, Department of Information and Communication Technology and supported by UNDP.
Besides, Chairman of Chitrakot Union Parishad Mr. Shamsul Huda Babul, former President of Munshiganj District Press Club and Associate Senior Staff Reporter of Time TV Mr. Mir Nasir Uddin Ujjal, President of Bangladesh Agent Banking Forum Mr. Md. Ahsan-ul-Alam, Director of Visa International Card Nasimul Islam were present at the event. BRAC Bank’s Senior Manager Mr. Deepak Chandra Das, Grameen Phone’s Dhaka Regional Manager Mohammad Rezwanur Rahman, City Bank’s Senior Relationship Manager (Cash Management) Mr. Shahdab Hossain and ShopUp’s Chief Strategy Officer Mr. Shaheen Shiham among others.
