The government has decided to purchase 130 comprehensive mobile phone jammers for Dhaka, Kashimpur-1, Kashimpur-2, Kashimpur High Security and Narayanganj jails. The Directorate of Prisons under the Security Services Department, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given policy approval in this regard.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal was held on Wednesday (April 12).
After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahbub Khan, told reporters, “In principle, approval has been given for the purchase of 130 mobile phone jammers for 5 prisons by the Direct Purchase Method (DPM) by the Prisons Department under the Security Services Department.”
Syed Mahbub Khan said in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Matters, the Bangladesh Election Commission has purchased and maintained the mother board, CPU, screen, finger print reader, card reader, printer, e-link panel, in-built speaker, etc. parts of 1 lakh 10 thousand EVMs. Another proposal is made to purchase related physical services from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited through direct purchase method. However, the concerned have withdrawn the proposal.
The Additional Secretary said that the ninth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the 14th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement were held today. 2 proposals have been presented for the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and 16 proposals for the approval of the Purchase Committee.
