The ‘Community Digital Storytelling Festival’ is going to be organized for the first time in Bangladesh with the slogan ‘Real Stories by Real People’. Anyone interested can participate in this festival by submitting their visual stories for free. The main phase of this festival will be held on February 10 and 11 next year. However, participants can submit their stories from Thursday (March 30) for the festival, which will continue till September 30.
This information was conveyed in the press release of the Department of ‘Journalism, Media and Communication’ of Daffodil International University on Thursday (March 30). It is said that the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication of Daffodil International University is organizing this kind of visual storytelling festival for the first time in Bangladesh by involving the community.
The organizers said that through the Community Digital Storytelling Festival, those interested storytellers who are backward in the society or deprived of modern facilities will get an opportunity to publish their short stories who do not get the opportunity to publish their stories in the mainstream media of the country. It will basically encourage the youth to create digital stories through modern technology especially mobile phones. Young and curious can send different kinds of visual stories. The categories of the festival include – Independent Category, DIU Best Community Storytelling Category, One Minute Category and Journalism Category.
Aftab Hossain, head of the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication at Daffodil International University said, ‘The main purpose of this festival is to attract the attention of our participants and bring forward the stories of people from different sections of the society. Through this we can play a role in building a beautiful society.’
The Chief advisor of the festival and the Associate Professor of journalism, media and communication department of Daffodil International University Dr. Abdul Kabil Khan said, ‘Through the use of digital technology, small visual stories can be created with the events related to the lives of people of different classes and occupations of our community. Through the festival, we want to give an opportunity to the stories of neglected storytellers.’
