Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Speaker, Jatiyo Sangsad opined that Bangladesh is passing through a period of free flow of information and technology. She said, “In the face of electronic media, social media, web portals, news portals all over the world, especially the print media has been facing many challenges.”
She commented so while speaking as the Chief Guest at a program organized in Tejgaon at Dhaka on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of The Dainik Samakal on Saturday (October 1). At that time, she sincerely congratulated the readers, staff and all concerned on the anniversary of the news media.
The speaker said, “Since the establishment of the newspaper – The Dainik Samakal, it has established an acceptable position among the readers in the country and abroad. In the age of free flow of information and technology, print media has to face many challenges. Dainik Samakal has successfully completed the difficult task of consolidating its position as a print media.
She further said, “The Dainik Samakal has upheld the freedom of expression of the people of Bangladesh. The era is moving forward with the spirit of liberation war as the strength of the defense of freedom. The backward communities of the society, the poor, children and women are working to establish their rights as a voice.” Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury expressed hope that the trust and confidence that has been created among the people will continue in the future.
The information minister spoke as a special guest on the occasion while The Dainik Samakal publisher AK Azad presided over the anniversary. Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud; Dr. Kamal Hossain, Senior lawyer; and fiction writer Selina Hossain also spoke at the event.
Besides, various media workers and other prominent people were present on the event.
