The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has collected a total of Tk. 2 crore 78 lakh 25 thousand from the country’s three private mobile operators Robi Axiata Limited, Grameenphone Limited and Banglalink Digital Communication as administrative fines due to the use of their SIMs in illegal VoIP activities.
Out of the collected money, Robi alone has given 2 crore 10 lakh taka. On the other hand, Grameenphone has paid fines of 52 lakh 50 thousand taka and Banglalink has paid 15 lakh 75 thousand taka.
On Thursday, Deputy Director of BTRC Zakir Hossain Khan said that, BTRC has received the respective pay orders on July 12, 2022 from Banglalink Digital Communication, on July 13, 2022 from Grameenphone Limited and on July 14, 2022 from Robi Axiata Limited.
Pursuant to Section 65 (5) of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulation Act, 2001, a hearing was held on 10 April 2022 which was chaired by Mr. Shyam Sundar Sikder, Chairman of the Commission in the presence of the Vice-Chairman and Commissioner.
