Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University will be one of the best technology universities as the heart of Bengali culture, said the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mostafa Jabbar.
Highlighting the birth history of the only university established at Trishal after the name of National Poet Nazrul, the Minister said that by deciding to establish this university on May 14, 1998, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina created higher education opportunities for the people of greater Mymensingh region. Those of us who were associated with the demand for the establishment of the university wanted to build it as a full-fledged culture and technology-university. Nazrul practice will prevail here but this university will be the heart of Bengali culture. At the same time it will be one of the best technical universities in the country.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organized by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University on the occasion of the golden jubilee of bringing national poet Nazrul Islam and his family to Bangladesh on Tuesday.
The Minister said that poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is the pride of Bengalis. By bringing the sick poet to Bangladesh and giving him the citizenship of Bangladesh and the status of national poet, Bangabandhu has made the Bengali nation proud. On 24 May, just a few months after the return of Bangabandhu to his homeland on 10 January 1972, it was possible for a far-sighted, powerful politician and statesman like Bangabandhu to bring an Indian citizen to Bangladesh and grant him citizenship.
National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University Vice Chancellor Prof. Soumitra Shekhar presided over the function while Director General of Bangla Academy Poet Nurul Huda and University Registrar Prof. Humayun Kabir spoke on the occasion.
Noting that Bengali is not a weak nation and Bengali is not a weak language, Mostafa Jabbar, the inventor of the Bengali alphabet in digital technology, said, “We have Bangabandhu, Nazrul and Rabindranath.” Bangladesh is the only language based country in the world. 35 crore people of the world speak Bengali language. Since Bengali script is used in the language of many small ethnic groups including Assamese language, the scope of Bengali script is even wider.
On the occasion of the golden jubilee, the Minister inaugurated various programs with photographs titled Bangabandhu from Nazrul organized by the University and unveiled the wrappers of books and memorabilia published on the occasion. Later he visited different faculties of the university. He assured the head of all possible collaborations in digitizing the university. Earlier, the minister handed over the Nazrul Padak to former Rajshahi University professor Pritikumar Mitra and eminent artiste Sujit Mostafa.
Poet Nurul Huda, while presenting detailed information about the Joy Bangla slogan, said that Joy Bangla has awakened the national consciousness just like the flame of fire. He also gives details of the poem in which Nazrul mentions the words Joy Bangla Joy.
Earlier, the minister handed over the Nazrul Padak to former Rajshahi University professor Pritikumar Mitra and eminent artiste Sujit Mostafa.
