Consumers wear shrouds protesting the closure of social media platform Ring ID and getting the money returned that they have invested in the ‘Ring ID Community Jobs Membership’ sector.
Ring ID customers staged a protest in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (February 3) afternoon. A few customers from different districts of the country took part in the program.
Participants complained that many of them had taken loans from various NGOs, associations and banks to invest in Jobs membership program by Ring ID. Now everyone is about to be pauper to repay these loans with interest.
Participants also said that since February 3, they have been coming to the press club every day at 9 am and leaving at 5 pm. They will come and continue their sit in program until the demand is met.
At the protest rally, a customer, Niyamul Haque Sumon said that the bank account of Ring ID has been frozen and the activities of the company has been shut down while investigating the case of a customer of Ring ID. But ordinary consumers like us did not know that it would take so long to investigate. That is why we are suffering a lot financially.
Earlier, on September 30, a victim filed a lawsuit against the platform under the Digital Security Act, alleging that he had been deceived by investing in Ring ID. On October 1, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Saiful Islam, the director of Ring ID, from Gulshan in the capital. The next day he was remanded for two days and interrogated. According to CID, the company has extorted huge sums of money from the public for making money through online advertising.
The company has collected Tk. 23 crore 94 lakhs in May last year, Tk. 109 crore 13 lakhs in June and Tk 79 crore 38 lakhs in July last year. Like some other e-commerce sites, they had been selling various products at unusual discounts and conducting transactions through e-wallets from buyers.
