Technology giant Google once again faces taxation in Russia for not removing banned content. This time the company has to pay a fine of 4 million rubles. A Moscow court issued the order on Monday.
Russia’s state-run news agency TAS reported that Google had been fined for giving access to various links to banned websites. However, no comment has been received from Google so far.
According to Reuters, the Putin government has adopted a number of policies aimed at curbing Russia’s technology giants. Google and Meta have been warned to remove the banned content on a regular basis. The two companies have already been fined for failing to remove theose content.
An earlier Russian warning had said that Google and Meter would not be exempt from fines if they did not remove the banned content. In Russia, the fines will be deducted from the revenue of those companies. However, Google has not commented yet on that.
