The ICT department is working alongside the Department of Agriculture through the use of modern technology such as combined harvest devices as well as IoT devices to increase production on declining arable land. To that end, the Digital Village project will be implemented in 10 villages in the first phase. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that preparations have been taken in advance for Bangladesh to take the lead in agriculture in the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
He made the remarks while addressing a function to distribute hybrid paddy seeds and fertilizers among farmers at Natore District Council on Sunday morning.
He said, ‘Maybe the time will come when the farmer will operate the harvester machine sitting at home. Because today the children of the less educated or illiterate farmers are being educated for the welfare of the people’s leader Sheikh Hasina. Mr. Sajeeb Wazed is adapting a system so that a farmer can do farming by wearing jeans and sneakers.
In addition to filling the oxygen deficit to increase fish breeding to bring the country to the forefront in agricultural technology, the state minister said that a new device called ‘Internet of Things’ in food management and the use of robots are also being considered.
Palak said, ‘People see robots on television and think that robots will actually stop their work. All robots will run. That’s it. It will make people’s lives easier. Once there were ploughs, no power tillers. Then there came the harvester machine. Maybe a driverless harvester machine will be launched from there. In this way, technology will always move forward. We have taken up the Digital Village project so that the children of our farmers can be well educated and use modern farming techniques. We will pilot 20,000 farmers in 10 villages. After that, Sajeeb Wazed Joy Bhai has undertaken a huge project so that Bangladesh can gradually lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Last Tuesday, the Prime Minister also approved the project.
Singra Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Selim Raza presided over the function. Upazila Chairman Md. Shafiqul Islam, Vice Chairman Md. Kamrul Hasan Kamran and Local Mayor Md. Jannatul Ferdous also spoke on the occasion.
