The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will not register motorcycles with Bluetooth and wireless services without the permission of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
In the meantime, BRTA has informed the manufacturers and marketing companies about the matter in a letter. The letter, issued on November 21, states that according to the Telecommunications Act 2001, no radio equipment can be installed, operated or used without the waves allocated by the BTRC.
The letter, signed by BRTA engineering director Shitangshu Shekhar Biswas, further said that the company concerned would have to seek permission from the BTRC for connecting Bluetooth wave-based apps and devices to motorcycles.
Companies are adding new innovations to their motorcycles, such as ABS, fuel injection and Bluetooth devices, keeping in mind the needs of the customers. Through which the rider can know the mileage, riding history, average speed, parking history, etc. of the bike through the app.
If the importer does not get approval from BTRC to add Bluetooth, Internet of Things, vehicle tracking system or any other wireless device to the motorcycle, the customer will not get the motorcycle registration from BRTA.
According to BRTA sources, ACI Motors, the authorized distributor of Yamaha in Bangladesh, has so far received approval from BTRC to use Bluetooth enabled technology. This modern technology will be added to the company’s upcoming R1 Five version 4.0, FZX, ERX 155 model bikes.
