The High Court has granted eight weeks anticipatory bail to seven scientific officers in a case of embezzlement of insurance premiums. The scientific officers who were granted bail are Dr. Swapan Kumar Roy, Dr. Shirin Akhter Jahan, Dr. Md. Shahriar Bashar, Dr. Mala Khan, Dr. Mohammad Nazim Zaman, Dr. Tushar Uddin and Dr. Deepa Islam.
On Thursday, (November 25), the High Court bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice AKM Zahirul Haque passed the order.
Lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kajal was in favor of the petition in the court. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was in favor of the ACC.
Corruption charges have been filed against 35 officials and employees of General Insurance Corporation, Exim Bank, Bangladesh Power Development Board, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Bangladesh Science and Industry Research Council for embezzling about Tk 26 crore of insurance premium on November 16 by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). When they applied for bail in the case, the court granted them eight weeks bail.
