The High Court Division has directed to inform what steps have been taken against the mobile companies to ensure quality services including network. The BTRC has been asked to submit a report in the form of an affidavit to the court within the next 60 days.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order on Monday (November 22).
Earlier, why the BTRC’s inaction in forcing mobile companies to ensure quality services including mobile phone networks should not be declared illegal; The High Court Division has also issued a rule seeking to know that. It would not be against the constitutional right of the public not to take any action despite the powers under Sections 3 and 9 of the BTRC Regulation Act to improve the quality of weak networks of mobile companies; Rule has also been asked to know.
Advocate Ishrat Hasan appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Md. Russel Chowdhury and Assistant Attorney General MMG Sarwar Payal was on behalf of the state.
Challenging the inaction in ensuring quality network, Lawyer Forum member journalist Mehedi Hasan Dalim, Mobile phone Subscribers’ Association president Mohiuddin Ahmed and Supreme Court lawyer Md. Rashidul Hasan lodged a writ petition on 12 June.
The Secretary of Information, Communications and Technology, Chairman of BTRC Grameen Phone and CEOs of mobile companies have been made respondents in the writ petition.
