On the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh, the World Olympic-WITSA Conference will be held on November 11 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center. 75 countries of the world are participating in this 4-day virtual and physical festival on the silver jubilee of World Information Technology and Services Alliance- WITSA. Besides the exhibition, there will be 30 seminars, ministerial conferences and B2B sessions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference with the theme: ‘ICT the Great Equalizer’. Vinton Graserf and Robert Kahn, one of the fathers of modern internet, will be present virtually in various seminars. Radia Perman and Sir Timothy Barners, the inventor of the World Wide Web will be connected to the same platform for the first time.
Ahsan Ahmed Chowdhury, Bangladesh Asiatic Representative in charge of event management, presented the information at a press conference held at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on October 27.
Earlier, senior secretary of the ICT department NM Zeaul Alam, executive director of the Bangladesh Computer Council, Md. Abdul Mannan and President of Bangladesh Computer Society Shahid U Munir spoke in the press conference.
Connecting online, WITSA Secretary-General James H. Poissant expressed hope that this year’s conference would be a gathering of technology entrepreneurs and experts.
Speaking at the press conference as the chief guest, the state minister for ICT said, “We are taking technology to the doorsteps of the people through the implementation and organization of various initiatives.” We want to use the power of technology as a tool to establish equality by eliminating the existing inequalities in human society.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT, said that the more a person, organization or country is strong in ICT in this age of globalization, the richer the economy and culture will be.
Palak further said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set up a Union Digital Center to eliminate technology inequality. On the advice of ICT advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a project has been taken up to take the internet to the village.
Mentioning that Bangladesh has now become an attractive place for investment in the world due to various initiatives of the government, Palak said it is hoped that the country’s hardware suppliers will start production soon.
