The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has requested all financial records, including loans, deposits, and any business-related transactions, of former e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) President Shomi Kaiser by Sunday. The unit has also sought information on her import-export activities, if applicable.
On Thursday, January 9, BFIU issued letters to banks requesting the details. According to a BFIU official, the inquiry has been initiated to investigate suspicious transactions in Shomi Kaiser’s bank accounts.
The letter specifies that banks must provide details of all accounts operated under her name, including loan sanction documents, locker accounts, and import-export-related information. Additionally, they must submit account statements, account-opening forms, KYC profiles, and a summary of all transactions.
The BFIU letter lists her addresses in New Eskaton and Gulshan, Dhaka, but does not mention any specific business entity. The precise reason for the inquiry into her loans, imports, exports, and other business records has not been disclosed.
Previously, the ICT Ministry allocated BDT 100 crore to e-CAB for the development of the e-commerce sector, of which BDT 15 crore was reportedly granted to Dhansiri Communications, a company owned by Shomi Kaiser. However, no direct link between this allocation and the BFIU’s investigation has been confirmed.
Since the fall of the government on August 5, the financial accounts of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family members, and individuals closely associated with the Awami League have been subjected to scrutiny and, in some cases, frozen.
