Students of Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) staged a road blockade and demonstration, demanding the swift appointment of a Vice-Chancellor (VC). The protest lasted for about two hours, during which the students chanted various slogans pressing for their demand.
On Monday (January 6), students blocked the Rangamati-Chattogram road near Banarupa Bazar in Rangamati town, causing a complete halt to vehicular movement in the area. Following assurances from the administration, the students ended the blockade, issued a 72-hour ultimatum, and marched from Banarupa to the District Commissioner’s (DC) office gate.
During the demonstration, the students stated, “Since the resignation of the university’s Vice-Chancellor on August 18, the campus has been without leadership, leaving the university in a state of neglect. As a result, normal academic activities, administrative processes, and faculty recruitment have been severely disrupted. If the Education Advisor does not appoint a Vice-Chancellor by Thursday, we will suspend the activities of the DC office and block the Rangamati-Chattogram highway.”
Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Rangamati, said, “I have been informed over the phone by the Ministry of Education that the VC appointment file will be sent to the Honorable Chief Advisor’s Office today (Monday). It will then proceed to the Honorable President’s Office. Hopefully, the students will have their new Vice-Chancellor within a couple of days.”
