Mahfuz Alam, an advisor to the interim government and Special Assistant to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, has outlined plans to revamp the country’s information technology sector alongside other critical sectors. On Monday, January 6, at 7:30 PM, he shared these priorities in a post on his verified Facebook page.
In the post, he highlighted the government’s current priorities as follows:
- Preparation of a comprehensive list of the July massacre victims and injured individuals, along with medical support and long-term rehabilitation for affected families.
- Justice for the July massacre through proper legal proceedings and thorough investigations.
- Accountability for 16 years of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and economic corruption, including the recovery of misappropriated funds.
- Ensuring the security of life and property while maintaining affordable commodity prices.
- Implementing realistic reforms in various national institutions based on a broad consensus.
- Restructuring essential sectors such as education, public health, information technology, and housing.
- Ensuring equal opportunities for jobs and entrepreneurship for the younger generation, along with increased state incentives.
- Shifting from a “development economy” to economic programs that prioritize the welfare of people, nature, and the environment.
- Guaranteeing transparency, accountability, and public service in all government activities.
Political Priorities
The advisor emphasized uniting the forces of the uprising to dismantle fascist structures and establish a new political framework.
He further stated: “Upholding national interests at all costs and prioritizing the concerns of Bangladesh’s people, nature, and environment over big corporations and foreign interests.”
Maintaining consensus among political parties regarding national priorities such as security, stability, and foreign relations, while empowering the public to prevent the return of fascist structures and perpetrators of violence.
Mobilizing public support for reforms and transitioning power through an election system reformed to reflect the people’s will.
Educating and politically empowering the country’s population, especially the youth, on their rights and responsibilities.
