Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Hasan Shahriar has issued a legal notice to the online travel agency ShareTrip, demanding compensation of BDT 10 million along with a refund for canceled tickets. The notice, addressed to ShareTrip founder Sadia Haque, the Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, and the administrator of the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), was sent on Tuesday via post and email.
According to the notice, Shahriar had booked two tickets through the ShareTrip app in the early hours of December 12, using card payment, to attend the Internet Governance Forum conference organized by the United Nations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, at around 9:30 am, he was informed over the phone that the two tickets would be issued from different airlines. Consequently, he canceled the tickets and requested a refund within 24 hours.
Despite the cancellation, the refund had not been processed as of December 16, prompting Shahriar to take legal action. The notice demands the immediate refund of the ticket price along with the compensation. Shahriar has stated that if the matter is not addressed, he will proceed with a writ petition in the High Court.
