The Ministry of Commerce’s Central Digital Commerce Cell issued the official order on Wednesday, October 20, citing Section 18, Subsection (2)(a) of the Trade Organization Act 2022 as the legal basis for forming the committee.
The committee will assist in updating the e-CAB member database and will be dissolved 15 days prior to the election. Members will not receive any financial remuneration or allowances for their work. The order was signed by Muhammad Saeed Ali, the administrator of e-CAB and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce.
This development follows significant leadership changes in e-CAB. Shomi Kaiser, the former president, resigned on August 13 after political upheaval led to the fall of the ruling Awami League government. The entire executive board resigned shortly thereafter. On September 10, Muhammad Saeed Ali was appointed as the administrator.
In a related incident, Shomi Kaiser was arrested on November 6 from Uttara, Dhaka, in connection with an attempted murder case.
Established in 2014 with only 53 founding members, e-CAB now has around 2,800 members as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this November.
