Adviser on Information and Broadcasting Nahid Islam directed the national television BTV to work as a media of the people by being friendly to the people and not the government. He gave this instruction while visiting the main station of Bangladesh Television in Rampura on Wednesday.
In the meeting, advisor Nahid Islam gave instructions to seriously promote the issues of attacks on minorities, plight of flood-affected people, extortion, encroachment and border killings across the country instead of the news of the government alone.
The advisor said that BTV should follow the true principles of the media. Reforms require a review of laws and policies.
Noting that this government does not represent any party, Nahid advised the BTV authorities not to give priority to any exclusive party in the campaign. He said, those who could not perform during the Awami government, those who were deprived, should be given a chance.
At the beginning of the anti-discrimination student movement in the meeting, the attack on BTV on Thursday, August 18 has caused at least Tk. 184 crores of damage, said Saidur Rahman, the deputy director general of BTV. The information adviser wanted to know if anyone from BTV was injured in this attack. But he did not give any answer about it at that time.
