Although the mobile internet service has been activated since Sunday, customers are expressing their satisfaction about its speed. Complaints are being received that many people get 5GB free internet for three days for a disconnected period of ten days but are not able to use it comfortably.
From Monday, users are reporting very slow internet speed including talking on the phone at various places. In some places, there are reports that the internet is down since afternoon. Customers also reported suffering in using broadband internet.
But the operators said, they are providing full speed. It is believed that quota reform movement coordinators are taking special precautions as they have given protest programs at eight places in Dhaka today on social media. This problem has occurred more in Science Lab, Gate No. 8 of North South University, Press Club, BNS Center of Uttara, Mirpur-10, ECB Chatter of Mirpur, Rampura and Mohakhali area where the assembly was announced. In Bashundhara residential area and Uttara too, customers are facing problems in using the internet.
Meanwhile, the police can be seen deployed in these areas since morning. Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) helicopters are also seen patrolling. Members of the BGB and the army are also seen patrolling the streets of the capital. Additional security measures have been taken at Mohammadpur, Mirpur-10 Roundabout, Badda, Rampura, Press Club, Jatrabari in the capital.
On the other hand, even though social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp are closed due to the adoption of special security measures, running them using VPN and several cache servers being closed, the pressure on the bandwidth increases and the speed of the Internet may slow down.
However, BTRC Chairman Engineer Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed said, if someone claims that they are not getting 4G network, then it is wrong. As the chairman of BTRC, I am saying that there is no slowing down. Rather we are trying to make it better.
