Google has recently closed channels associated with Russian media. Although the government of the country has called for the launch of these channels, the company owned by Alphabet is in a stubborn position. In this context, Russia has decided to reduce the speed of YouTube on desktop computers. YouTube has already claimed that users are getting slow speeds on the video sharing platform in the country.
According to senior Russian lawyer Alexander Khinshtein, the decision to slow down was made due to the failure to replace parts in Russia, as well as the failure to meet content moderation requirements.
The country’s communications regulator, Roskomnadzor, has alleged that Google has no interest in infrastructure in Russia. As a result, the local subsidiary went bankrupt. Also, the data centers that are at the local level have to suffer from billing and maintenance.
In March 2022, Russia shut down state-owned media channels. The reason for this is said to show offensive incidents against the company’s policy. Since then, Russia’s relationship with the United States has deteriorated further.
