Considering the safety of students, including engineering, science and technology and technical and textile, the University Grants Commission has announced the closure of all public and private universities and colleges of the country for an indefinite period. At the same time, students have been instructed to leave the residence halls.
On Tuesday, July 16 at night, the Vice Chancellors (VCs) of public and private universities were instructed accordingly.
There are 18 science and technology universities in the country including BUET, DUET, RUET, CUET and SUST with a total of 6 engineering. Among them BUET and DUET were more vocal in the anti-quota movement.
According to the instruction titled ‘Suspension of university education activities’, according to the decision of the government, all public and private universities of the country and all colleges including medical, textile, engineering and other colleges affiliated to the country will remain closed until further orders.

The letter signed by UGC Secretary Dr Ferdous Zaman writes, for the sake of the students’ safety, they were instructed to leave the residential hall and stay in a safe place.’
On the same day secondary and higher secondary schools-colleges-madrasas-polytechnic institutes in the country were declared closed indefinitely due to nationwide violence surrounding the agitation for quota reforms in government jobs.
Also, the Inter-Education Board has postponed the HSC and equivalent exams on July 18.
