Robi Axiata Limited and Banglalink, one of the country’s two mobile network operators, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the feasibility of network infrastructure sharing. The two operators have taken this joint initiative to increase the spread of 4G across the country by increasing the quality and speed of the mobile network.
The MoU was signed between Robi and Banglalink in the presence of State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Friday (17 May 2024) at the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2024 event at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Robi Axiata Limited and Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink exchanged the MoU at the ceremony.
At this time, Secretary of Post and Telecommunication Division Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Division Md. Shamsul Arefin, Chairman of BTRC Engineer Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood, Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman and Banglalink CEO Erik Aas were present.
In a joint statement, Robi and Banglalink said, “This timely and dynamic initiative will bring a revolutionary change in the country’s telecommunication system. We are determined to provide our customers with better service and seamless nationwide network. Our first step in this regard will be to verify the technical and financial feasibility of network shares. Shared use of network infrastructure will begin after necessary policy changes and approvals from regulatory agencies. Our aim is to ensure robust telecommunication connectivity for all consumers, to achieve the goal of building a Smart Bangladesh by 2041. We are grateful to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for always supporting such visionary initiatives.”
