Korvi Rakshand, founder of Jaago Foundation, Bangladesh, was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in the Emergent Leadership category. She received the award in person on November 11 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, Philippines.
This year a total of four people were given this award in different categories. They are: Korvi Rakshand of Bangladesh; Ravi Kannan R. of India; Miriam Coronel-Ferrer of the Philippines; and Iguenio Lemos of East Timor. This year, the awardees were announced on the morning of August 31. And Rakshand of Bangladesh took place in this row for her contribution to social and sustainable development.
The award was handed over to Korvi Rakshand by the Chairman, Aurelio R. Montinola III and Senator Ramon B. Magsaysay, Jr. The 2002 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee the Venerable Pomanian Sunim of South Korea spoke at the event. Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.
Korvi Rakshand received the Ramon Magsaysay Award this year in recognition of her pioneering role in social change under the visionary leadership of Jaago Foundation. Jaago Foundation School and the Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) program are run under her able leadership. The Volunteers for Bangladesh (VBD) organization currently has more than 50,000 volunteers contributing significantly to social development programs. On the other hand, Jaago Foundation is working hard to eradicate poverty through school education, ensure quality education and help the underprivileged.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award is called the Nobel Prize of Asia. The award is given to individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to society across the Asian continent. So far a total of 344 individuals and organizations have been given this award. Korvi Raksand from Bangladesh joined this queue. The Ramon Magsaysay Prize was established by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in 1957 in memory of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay. The award is organized to pay tribute to those who have made a significant contribution to Asia by working with dedication, courage and self-sacrifice.
