The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has filed a case with Motijheel Police Station of the capital on allegations of rumors and propaganda regarding the new curriculum and two textbooks for the academic year 2024 through various media including social media. On Thursday, the secretary of the board Mosammat Nazma Akhtar informed that, the case was registered on October 23 with Motijheel police station in the capital. Law enforcement forces are working to identify those who are spreading false propaganda and bring them under the law.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said that what the NCTB officials mentioned in the statement that rumors and misinformation are being spread is basically the allegation of spreading misinformation based on social media. They are looking into the matter.
Earlier on October 23, Education Minister and Director General of DSE held a virtual meeting with principals, head teachers and assistant head teachers of 459 educational institutions in 11 districts of Dhaka region. Also, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSE) issued a show-cause notice to an Associate Professor of BCS education cadre named Bidyut Kumar Roy for posting on Facebook criticizing the textbooks of the sixth and seventh classes of the new curriculum. He has been asked to respond to the notice in writing within the next three days.
Through the Facebook group of ‘Sammilito Shiksha Andolan Ovivabok Forum’, the parents have already formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club, Vikarunnisa Noon School and College main branch, Wills’ Little Flower School demanding revision of curriculum and examination system. Outside the capital Dhaka, human chains were formed under the banner of the same forum in Barisal, Rajshahi and Chittagong. Apart from this, the forum established through this Facebook group has announced a human chain in front of major educational institutions in various departmental cities of the country, including Dhaka, until November 2.
