In response to questions about the threat of cyberattacks, Election Commission Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam said that the AID server is constantly being updated for security. That’s why sometimes this server has to be shut down. And this practice exists all over the world.
The commissioner also said, “It (server) is a valuable asset in response to various questions from journalists in his office at the election building on Wednesday. It is being updated regularly. It is a routine work. And for a day, two days, servers are off all over the world. “Sometimes there is a shutdown, sometimes it has to be done. It cannot be predicted.”
The secretary also said, “Electronic devices can be shutdown at any time. Where information is stored, there is a risk of cyberattack. Everyone has the right to take safety measures to protect themselves if there is a risk.”
In another question, he said that even though the bill has been passed in the Parliament, NID activities are not going from the Election Commission to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Jahangir Alam said, “Until their offices, manpower and other preparations are completed, they will remain under the EC.
“The new National Identity Registration Act provides, it will come into effect when the government fixes the date of its implementation by gazette notification. Until the law fixes the effective date, the NID program will continue as it is.”
