The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) left classes and have taken position in front of the office of BUET VC Dr. Satya Prasad Majumder protesting the joining in classes by Ashiqul Islam Bitu, one of the Chatra League Activist and accused of killing a BUET student Abrar Fahad. The protesting students vowed to continue the class boycott until the demands are met.
BUET students started gathering in the campus from 10 am today on Wednesday. At around 11:15 a.m., they took a stand in front of the BUET Vice Chancellor’s office.
The protesting students displayed a number of placard written their demands on in front of the BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Saty Prasad Majumdar’s office. None of the students agreed to speak disclosing their names out of fear of harassment. However, they said that their program will continue until the demands are met.
One of the protestors said, we don’t want to take classes with a murderer. Our movement will continue till the announcement of the cancellation of Bitu’s course registration.
BUET students said that the statement will be presented in a press conference.
Before this, Ashiqul Islam Bitu joined the online class of Chemical Engineering Department on May 22, 2021. But he could not attend the class again when the students protested like boycotting the class.
After the recent murder of Abrar Fahad, the student Ashiqul Islam (Bitu), who was expelled from the university for life, returned to class. He was seen again in the Chemical 19 batch class on August 6. The general students of BUET are extremely angry in this incident.
