The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission-BTRC has warned 17 International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators of the country with a fine of Tk. 45 lakh and 10 other organizations for not following the licensing rules properly and for illegal activities. The institutions have been fined for several reasons, including under-invoicing, not sharing quarterly revenue data, failure to pay annual licensing fees on time, not completing financial audits, changing address without permission of the commission and changing share structure without prior approval.
According to the decision of the 275th meeting of the commission, the revenue department of the Commission has already started the activities to collect fines. BTRC Director MA Taleb Hossain confirmed this decision to DigiBangla.
According to the sources, these fines and warning messages have been given as per the reports made on 27 institutions after on-site inspection of 34 registered IIG institutions. Mango Teleservice, Itel Limited, Fiber@Home Global and Apple Communication Ltd. have been fined a maximum of Tk. 5 lakh.
And Rigo Communications Ltd. and Intra Global Communication Ltd. have been fined with a minimum fine of 50 thousand taka. And only Coronet Corporation Limited has been visited and report submitted in the commission meeting. Novocom, Equitel, ADN, Exabyte, Cybergate, Aamra Technologies, Planet Internet, Radiant and BDHub have also been warned.
