Indian airline IndiGo is going to buy 500 aircraft from Airbus. Both parties reached the purchase order agreement at the Paris Air Show. It is the largest purchase order by any airline in commercial aviation history. BBC News and Business News.
According to the BBC report, the financial value of this agreement can be 5 thousand 5 billion dollars. With this, the Indian-based aircraft company signed a purchase order for 1,330 aircraft from Airbus.
The aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2030 and 2035. Airbus A320 and A321 models are in this new purchase order. IndiGo’s record purchase order will take them in line with other major airlines in the world. Apart from this, they will also move into the ranks of the influential in purchasing aircraft. And all this will happen at a time when air traffic in India has increased tremendously after the corona pandemic.
India will be the fastest growing economy among the G20 countries in the next few years. During this time many will travel by air for the first time. Keeping this huge market in mind, Indigo placed this large purchase order. IndiGo currently controls about 60 percent of India’s domestic aviation market. Currently, the company is operating with more than three hundred aircraft.
Earlier, IndiGo’s local rival Air India made headlines last February with a purchase order of 470 aircraft. They ordered 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.
