As the work of various engineering organizations is related to technical matters, the Chairmen of the engineering organizations, the Chairmen of the Board of Directors of the companies, the Managing Directors and above all in the top positions of the engineering organizations, none but engineers are demanded to be placed; since the lack of engineers in engineering organizations are causing hindrance and creating a long process in formulating and implementing plans. Previously, engineers had been placed in the top posts of Rural Electrification Board, RAJUK and BCIC; but now non-engineers have been posted. Therefore, with the aim of bringing overall mobility in engineering organizations and companies, engineers should be appointed replacing the non-engineering people in the top positions in various engineering organizations.
The engineers made this demand to the government regarding various problems of engineers in a press conference Today (Saturday), organized on the occasion of 75th founding anniversary of The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh-IEB and Engineers Day in Ramna of the capital. The speakers demanded that people with technical knowledge should be appointed as PD instead of appointing people with no technical knowledge or no experience in engineering work as PD, including the creation of an engineering wing in the Prime Minister’s office.
At the same time, the IEB has demanded in relation to BCS cadre recruitment of various engineering organizations, LGED Cadre recruitment, creation of ‘Water Resources Engineering Cadre’ for implementation of Delta Plan, linking ICT with BCS Telecommunication Cadre to build ‘Smart’ Bangladesh and replacing BCS Telecommunication Cadre with ‘Telecom and ICT’. Cadre’, to create ‘Textile Cadre’. Also, Bangladesh Civil Service’s ‘Senior Service Pool’ i.e. Deputy Secretary of the Ministry should be appointed through open competitive examination from among various cadres.
The IEB President Engineer Md. Nurul Huda presided over the press conference and IEB’s newly elected General Secretary Engineer SM Manjurul Haque Manju, Vice President Engineer Mohammad Hossain, Engineer Khandkar Manzoor Morshed, Assistant General Secretary Engineer Md. Abul Kalam Hazari, Engineer Md. Ronak Ahsan, Engineer Prateik Kumar Ghosh, Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin, Engineer Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin, Engineer Amit Kumar Chakraborty, Engineer Md. Nasir Uddin, Engineer Md. Moazzem Hossain Bhuiyan, Engineer Meshbahuzaman Chandan, Chairman of IEB Dhaka Center Engineer Molla Mohammad Abul Hossain, Editor Engineer Khairul Basar, Vice President Engineer Md. Habib Ahmed Halim Murad along with leaders of various centers and sub-centers of IEB were present in the press conference.
In the press conference, the IEB General Secretary Engineer Md. Shahadat Hossain Shiblu said in a written speech that the engineers working in most of the country’s organizations are burdened with duties, additional duties, and ongoing duties. Even though the post is vacant, additional duties are being given to the incumbent without promotion from the concerned ministry. But the Administration Cadre is being promoted to more than the approved posts. On the other hand, many engineering officers are not being promoted even after more than 20 years of service stuck in the same post, despite having vacancies. As a result, organizations are creating chaos in the workplace and engineers are being discriminated against. In this case, if the next stage of promotion or grade is given after the fulfillment of the service conditions of the engineers working in the engineering organizations in the feeder position, the engineers will get their fair rights on the one hand, and on the other hand, their motivation will increase.

On behalf of IEB, he also said that it is the need of the time to change the current job structure of polytechnic teachers and implement the job structure of lecturer-professor.
About IEB’s 75th anniversary and Engineer’s Day program, General Secretary Engineer Md. Shahadat Hossain Shiblu said, “Engineer’s Day” program is starting today (Saturday) with a press conference. Hoisting the National and IEB flag, oath taking and rally will be held tomorrow (Sunday) 7th May in the morning at IEB headquarters.
