The UK-based book selling platform Book Depository is going to be closed. After two decades in operation, the popular online bookstore will close its operations on April 26 with the decision of its owner, Amazon. The decision comes as part of Amazon’s ongoing cost-cutting and layoffs. News Reuters.
Book Depository was established in UK in 2004. Then it was providing free delivery service to more than 120 countries. More than two crore books have been sold. Amazon acquired the company in 2011. Since then the book depository has become one of the main parts of the e-commerce company’s book selling service.
As per the recent announcement, all activities are closing on April 26. However, customers can order books according to demand till noon on that day. Book Depository will deliver the products ordered by customers till June 23.
However, Amazon did not explain the reason for the shutdown separately. However, the decision is seen as part of the company’s plan to cut staff and cut costs.
