Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that a new era of artificial intelligence (AI) in search technology has begun. Speaking during the company’s earnings report on Tuesday, he stated that 2025 is set to be a landmark year for major advancements in search technology, according to a report by TechCrunch.
Google is now aiming to transform its search function into a more advanced AI assistant, capable of independently analyzing web content and providing precise answers to users. The initial step in this direction was the introduction of AI Overviews, although it sparked controversy from the outset.
Pichai highlighted that DeepMind’s multimodal AI system, “Project Astra,” could revolutionize the future of search. This technology can analyze visual inputs from cameras or screens and generate instant responses. Google also plans to integrate it into smart glasses and similar devices.
Additionally, another AI tool, “Gemini Deep Research,” is expected to enhance Google Search for academic and research purposes. It will be capable of generating comprehensive research reports within minutes.
However, Google’s first iteration of AI Overviews faced criticism due to numerous inaccuracies and misleading answers. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to its vision. Pichai confirmed that new AI-driven experiences will be integrated into Google Search in 2025.
