Apple is reportedly in discussions with local tech giants Tencent and ByteDance to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) features into iPhones in China, according to sources familiar with the matter, as reported by Reuters.
Earlier this month, Apple began incorporating OpenAI’s ChatGPT into iPhones, enabling Siri to respond to user queries about images and documents using AI. However, since ChatGPT is blocked in China and the country imposes stringent regulatory requirements on AI services, government approval is necessary before launching such features.
To navigate these challenges, Apple is seeking local partners, especially as its market share in China faces declines. Discussions with Tencent and ByteDance are reportedly in their early stages. ByteDance has declined to comment on the matter, while Apple and Tencent have not provided immediate responses.
