Telegram has faced unprecedented pressure this year to maintain a clean platform. Following the arrest of its founder, Pavel Durov, in France, legal action has been taken against the messaging app over allegations of facilitating harmful content sharing.
Since announcing a crackdown in September, Telegram has reported the removal of 15.4 million groups and channels in 2024 related to harmful content, such as fraud and terrorism. The platform stated that the process was conducted using “state-of-the-art AI moderation tools.”
In a message on his Telegram channel, Durov announced the launch of a new moderation page, aimed at making the platform’s moderation efforts more transparent to the public. According to this page, moderation activities on Telegram have significantly intensified since Durov’s arrest in August.
