Apple introduced the iPhone 16 series in September, featuring the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Among these, only the Pro models were equipped with the advanced periscope telephoto camera. However, if you’re expecting this feature to be included in the non-Pro iPhone 17 models next year, you may be disappointed, reports GSM Arena.
According to South Korean publication The Elec, the periscope telephoto camera will remain exclusive to the Pro models in the upcoming lineup as well. While LG Innotek, Apple’s camera module supplier, is investing in new periscope camera technology, this upgrade is expected to be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.
The iPhone 17 lineup is anticipated to include four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air (or Slim), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Currently, the periscope cameras in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max offer 5x optical zoom, and it’s likely that next year’s Pro models will feature similar or improved capabilities. However, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air/Slim models are expected to miss out on this advanced feature.
