Oppo and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) have inaugurated a joint research center to advance AI imaging technology. The initiative aims to contribute to the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
The center, established under a 2022 agreement between Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corporation Ltd. (Oppo) and PolyU, was officially launched on November 1 at the PolyU campus. The event was attended by PolyU President Professor Jin-Guang Teng and Oppo Research Institute President Jason Liao. The agreement was signed by PolyU Vice President (Research and Innovation) Professor Christopher Chao and Oppo’s Head of Industry-Academia Affairs Zheng Qin.
Under this collaboration, the “PolyU-Oppo Joint Innovation Research Center” will be developed further into an advanced innovation hub. Oppo has committed a minimum investment of 30 million yuan over the next five years to support training for Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers and drive technological advancements in imaging algorithms.
This partnership reinforces Oppo and PolyU’s dedication to pioneering developments in AI imaging technology and fostering academic-industrial collaboration.
